I developed the initial layout for the Moon Over Buffalo set relatively quickly. The nature of the show required the design to fit a very specific shape and support the fast paced movement of the production. From there, I explored the visual style by drawing inspiration from the basements of older buildings. The overall layout remained largely unchanged throughout the design process, with only a few additional openings and adjustments made to improve functionality and staging.
The final design evolved to include much more throughout the space, with nostalgic memorabilia from the theater's past and present displayed across the stage in a fun, comedic way. One of my favorite details was the inclusion of the signature wall, which helped capture the theater's history and sense of community. I also put a great deal of effort into the artwork depicting the theater, as well as the accompanying information that gave each piece additional context and meaning.
